# Write down your hypotheses
If you’re moving through uncertain situations ([[The Idea Maze]], etc.) and you know you need to try a number of things that might or might not work, it’s important to have hypotheses so that you actually know whether they worked or not so you don’t waste a lot of time on that specific test. [[Precise communication enables other people to make decisions]], in this case, it’s future you.
Precise hypotheses help you know how to act to test them. [[Legibility enables action]].
Even if you have *think* you have a precise hypothesis it’s probably just an imprecise hunch. Writing it down forces you to face paradoxes or ambiguities in the hypothesis. [[Hunch, notion, idea]].
