# What people vs How people When it comes to what grabs someone’s attention, some people are excited about processes, systems, … *how* things happen. “How” people. Other people are excited about the outcomes of these processes and systems … *what* things happen. “What” people. Each group’s natural tendency is to focus on the thing that excites them. A “how” person’s default explanation will cause a “what” person to completely glaze over. A “what” person’s default explanation will cause a “how” person to be extremely skeptical. The trick in communication is to focus on weaving “what” with “how.” I suspect that “what” people vastly outnumber “how” people.
