# Roadmapping could be thought of as backwards-chaining together a series of conception-only heuretics 1. Start with a vision 2. Figure out with as much precision as possible the component pieces of that vision * Questions that help do this * “How would that work?” * “What about …?” 3. Figure out what assumptions those component pieces make 4. Assert a heuretic that has the affordances to make that assumption true 5. Repeat 2 -> 4 until you run up to precise questions that can be experimentally verified You could think of this like a recursive function. * How does this compare and contrast with [[What are the eight steps of Wigmore analysis translated to science?]] * It ignores the ‘drawing the map step’ * Step 1+2 here is the same as step 2 for the wigmore piece * Step 3 here is step 4ish there Are there concepts from actually doing the chain rule that you could do here? When you take a derivative of a multivariate function with respect to a variable, you add together the derivatives of that function with respect to each variable multiplied by the derivative of that variable with respect to the original derivative variable. In a similar way, you could look at a vision, break it apart into its component pieces and ask what are the constraints on each of these pieces. You could then ask what would need to assume to relax that constraint and what implemented or concept-only heuretic has the affordances that can make that assumption true.
