# Heretical scientists and cryptoacademics are natural allies [[Heretical scientists]] and [[Cryptoacademics]] seem like two sides of the same coin. The former remain within the system but rebel against it and the latter still hew to the system while officially not being part of it. Both care about research and pushing the [[Knowledge frontier]] more than the academic system that is nominally supposed to be the framework for those activities. My hunch is that there is much less crossover between the two groups than would be fruitful. The actionable thing would be to identify people in both groups (which will be hard because both naturally hide to protect themselves) and bring them together. ### Related * [[Cross-disciplinary real research conferences are underdone]] * [[It is feasible to consciously cultivate a scene of frontier openers]] [Web URL for this note](http://notes.benjaminreinhardt.com/Heretical+scientists+and+cryptoacademics+are+natural+allies) [Comment on this note](http://via.hypothes.is/http://notes.benjaminreinhardt.com/Heretical+scientists+and+cryptoacademics+are+natural+allies)
