# Eldercare is an emotionally draining industry
Unlike childcare, older adults don’t have their whole lives ahead of them. Unlike medicine, your customers are not going to get better - at best you give a temporary bit of joy and respite from suffering. Many older adults are in incredibly depressing situations - people with memory loss whose families have abandoned them to people who physically can’t do anything but watch tv to people who are literally made out of tumors. It’s emotionally draining staring your own mortality in the face every single day, 10+ hours a day. Many of the people who are in the industry are pretty jaded and emotionally drained themselves so you get emotionally drained indirectly.
