# Disambiguating stagnation arguments [[There are three main theories of stagnation]] and for each of those arguments there are different timescales to consider. * If you’re looking at the 0-5 year timescale, you care about commercialization and dispersion. * If you’re looking at the 5-15 year timescale, you care about [[The (idea) valley of death]] and Mission-oriented research. Harnessing phenomena we roughly understand, integrating it into useful systems. This still requires a lot of research but focused on results. * If you’re looking at the 15+ year timescale, you care about exploring new phenomena.
