# A definite worldview means you believe the universe is deterministic
In fact, Thiel actually uses the terms interchangeably in [[Notes from CS183: Startups]]. I didn’t realize this until I was reading through my notes. I was effectively gaslit into thinking that I was confusing the terms.

`I actually confuse Thielian definiteness and “determinism” in my head. This stands in stark contrast to a lot of current thinking which focuses on statistics and ‘letting the data speak.’`
